How I Wash My Makeup Brushes

When you have OCD like I do, you tend to think about a lot of things more often than you should. For instance, I have stick to my cleaning routine every week and this includes washing my makeup brushes. These dirty things touch our face every single day, and carry so much bacteria. I know, what a pleasant blog post. I hope you find it useful though because I recently changed up my bush washing regimen and love it so of course I'm here to share.

What you'll need:

Dirty brushes
Olive Oil
Baby shampoo/dish soap or whatever you prefer
2 small bowls

What I do:

I mix about a tablespoon of olive oil in with about 5 tablespoons of baby shampoo into a bowl. The one I found on Pinterest said to mix equal parts of oil with soap, but I found that too much oil made it very hard to get rid of the oil and it made my makeup weird for a few days. So I use less.

I then fill up the second bowl with warm water.

I take a dirty brush and first run it under warm water and swirl around the first bowl with the soap/oil mixture. Swirl around the bottom of the bowl for about 15-20 seconds. I will then cup the palm of my hand and swirl it around the palm of my hand to get any deep makeup out of there, and then do the same thing in the second bowl of water. If the brush is still dirty, I dip back in the first bowl until clean. I'll then run the brush under warm water to get everything off and then gently press the excess water out and reshape the brush.

Once I'm done with all of the brushes I store them facing down overnight in a clean towel to let all of the water drip out of them. If you store upright it will deteriorate the glue in the handles of the brushes.

That's it! I like using the tiny bit of olive oil in with my baby shampoo because it really makes my brushes soft and gets them clean.

I also use this mixture for my beauty blender and as you can see, it gets it completely clean.

Holiday Gift Guide: For Him

for him

This is going to be my second gift guide for 2013! I am super excited for this one because this has given me an excuse to start looking for items to add to Joe's Christmas list. Sometimes shopping for a guy can be hard, I know that it is for me. Whether you're shopping for a boyfriend, husband, dad, uncle, brother, or friend; I think I've found some really cool things for any guy in your life!

1~ Tickets to his favorite sporting event, If the guy you are shopping for is really passionate about sports then you really cant go wrong! I know tickets to games can be pretty expensive, but buying in advance and going through a ticket exchange where season ticket holders sell seats to certain games is a great option!

2~ Cologne - I personally love buying Joe cologne as a gift. I think it is a really gift and it can go for any guy you are looking to buy for. The price really ranges on what you are looking to buy as well which is awesome!

Burberry - Brit Rhythm ~Sephora $60.00

3~ Hats or Beanies -  Just as much as we need handbags and shoes, they need their accessories too. There are so many options to go for when buying a hat, there are always good sales and you can get them from any store.

LA Lakers Fitted Hat Lids.com $36.99

4~ Watches - Watches are not only stylish but are convenient. They make a great gift for any guy no matter the age!

AX Armani Exchange Watch Nordstrom.com $180.00

5~ Video Games / Video Game Console - No matter how much girls hate video games, guys will always want to play them and why not give them something they truly want for Christmas? The new PlayStation 4 just came out recently and I know that is probably on the top of a lot of guys wish lists this year!

PlayStation 4 bundle pack Walmart.com $517.00

It's not about the price tag on what you spend for the guy in your life, it's about the thought behind it! Some other great ideas are those hand made coupon books for your husband or boyfriend or a deck of cards with reasons you love that person. Pinterest has a million of DIY and handmade gift ideas that are so thoughtful and inexpensive.

Pinterest Addiction!

For the past year now I have loved pinterest, but since Joe and I moved into our own place I really have become addicted! Over the past year or so I have pinned so many adorable things that I hope to cook, DIY, buy, etc. (It's really bad for your wallet) When I worked at an elementary school with first graders I would use this website for all of my lesson plans and fun craft ideas for them! I just can't get enough. Now that we are slowly but surely getting our new place all set up and more cozy I have been loving the home decor and DIY section of pinterest.. I literally want mason jars all over my house!

I plan on doing a ton of DIY projects soon, and would love to share them with you all! If anyone has a pinterest and is obsessed as I am, follow me!
